The National Theater in Warsaw returns to King Lear, and Jan Englert returns to the title role. In 1998, the actor played in a play prepared by Maciej Prus.
William Shakespeare's tragedy is one of the peak achievements of European theater. "The theme of King Lear is the decay and fall of the world," wrote Jan Kott, but the depth of thought and the strength of emotions of this drama lead to various interpretations, and such interpretations have been made in many productions and film adaptations. One thing is certain - the story about the King of Britain is an acting and stage challenge, setting the highest demands. Questions about Lear's attitude touch on the existential and philosophical dimensions of the human condition. Perhaps this is the boldest examination to which Shakespeare subjected human nature.
